Technology Operations
GMTI’s Foundation and Solutions Integration & Delivery teams architect, deploy and manage multi-tenant Internet hosting operations at GMTI’s data centers. Team members are specialists who work cross-functionally to support a wide spectrum of applications. The teams maintain a state-of-the-art infrastructure that accommodates innovation, planned and unplanned business needs, large traffic spikes and growth. They manage foundational web operations including core networking services and bandwidth, storage, monitoring, virtualization, compliance and security. They automate server and application builds, as well as configuration and management tasks, to reduce the need for device-level administration.
The Software Development team partners with Gannett Digital to design applications for web and mobile sites and deliver platform enhancements in accelerated, iterative cycles with stringent quality standards. Team members' involvement in projects goes beyond coding and testing: They assist in defining scope and requirements, develop proofs-of-concept, and participate in forums for developers at other Gannett companies.
The Deployment & Hosting Support team maintains servers and hosting environments performs all site deployments, manages changes to the production environment, and provides support services for GMTI’s hosting customers.
GMTI’s TechOps teams have combined decades of experience in the areas of web applications architecture, load testing, website performance optimization and database high availability and scalability.
Services and Support
Services and Support teams perform help desk, instructional, troubleshooting and coordination services for Gannett companies, providing a single point of contact for nearly every component of our customers' online offerings. The teams typically design and start up new support services in tandem with the roll-outs of new Gannett Digital solutions.
Network Operations Center
The NOC provides continual console monitoring of GMTI's hosting environments and hosted applications. The team is the first responder to alerts and performs routine maintenance.
Knowledge Management
The Knowledge Management team is responsible for maintaining GMTI’s extensive knowledge base, and develops and delivers training for end-users and GMTI services and support staff. KM assists in the launches of new Gannett Digital solutions and documents best practices and other reference materials for users across Gannett.
Project Management
The Project Management Office (PMO) manages nearly all GMTI projects including internal initiatives. They perform the tactical functions of ensuring projects meet scope, quality and schedule constraints. Team members often work in unison with Gannett Digital’s Technology Project Management team, running a single plan for teams at GMTI and managing critical path tasks, communications and assistance to sites in preparing for change.
Data Services
The Data Services team manages the transformation and distribution of digital content — data and images — to and from the majority of all audience-facing Gannett applications and solutions. They manage a virtual data services center which processes millions of classified ads each month. The team has developed, and monitors and supports, more than a thousand active feed processes which handle more than 400 million transactions (records imported or exported) a year, touching hundreds of systems and locations.
Quality Assurance
The QA team works closely with GMTI's software developers and Gannett’s software vendors to certify online applications prior to their release. Quality Assurance activities include developing test plans, creating functional tests for new features according to use cases defined in product requirements, conducting performance, stress and regression tests and automating test scripts for efficient re-use.
